Michigan State women's head basketball coach Suzy Merchant is taking a medical leave from the program according to a university press release.

Merchant's leave is effective immediately and associate head coach Amaka Agugua will take over as interim coach.

On January 1st, the 47-year-old coach fainted on the sidelines during their game against Illinois and Agugua took over as coach for the following game against Purdue.

There is no timetable set for Merchant to return to the bench.
