The Michigan State Spartans hockey team dropped the first of a two game series with the Princeton Tigers 3-1 at Hobey Baker Rink in Princeton, NJ. Michigan State (4-8) made their first ever visit to Princeton and it was the first visit by a Big Ten team since 1950. After a scoreless first period, the Spartans struck first when Michael Ferrantino found the back of the net with a power play goal in the second however Jonathan Liau  then tied the game for Princeton (2-6-1). The Tigers, from the ECAC, took the lead for good four minutes later on a goal from David Hallisey. Ben Foster capped the scoring in the third with Princeton's final goal. Jake Hildebrand stopped 20 of 23 shots for Michigan State while Colton Phinney made 44 saves for the Tigers. Michigan State looks to gain a split when they face off against the Tigers Saturday night.
