Michael Ferrantino and Matt DeBlouw scored in a shootout to propel the Michigan State Spartans Hockey team to a win over the sixth ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers 2-1 at Munn Ice Arena Saturday afternoon. Michigan State (5-9-1, 1-2-1 Big Ten) opened the scoring in the first period on Brent Darnell's goal. Minnesota (9-4-1, 1-0-1) then took the lead with two goals of their own in the period. Connor Reilly tied the score then two minutes later, Kyle Rau put the Gophers up 2-1 but the Spartans were able to tie the game back up at two when Mackenzie MacEachern found the back of the net. Darnell scored his second of the game in the second period to put the Spartans back ahead and they held that lead until two minutes left in regulation when Reilly scored his second of the game to send the game into overtime. A scoreless extra session led to the shootout and set the stage for Spartan heroics. Jake Hildebrand made 21 saves for MSU and Adam Wilcox stopped 42 shots for Minnesota. Michigan State next takes the ice on Sunday December 14 when they will host Clarkson at Munn Ice Arena. Pregame coverage begins at 4:30pm on Lansing's Sports Station The Game 730AM WVFN.
