The Michigan State Spartans Men's Basketball team opened their 2014-15 season with a tough 64-59 win over a scrappy team from the United States Naval Academy in the 2014 Veterans Classic Friday night at Alumni Hall in Annapolis, MD. Michigan State (1-0) was projected to have a fairly easy time in their regular season debut but someone for forgot to tell Navy (0-1) as the two teams exchanged leads throughout the first half with the Spartans holding on to a 36-29 halftime lead. It was more of the same in the second half when the Spartans went up 13 then Navy answered with a 10-0 run until Michigan State pulled away from a very physical Midshipmen squad at the end of the game. Two Spartans scored in double figures with Travis Trice scored a career high with 25 points and Branden Dawson scored 12 and added eight rebounds. Michigan State next plays on Tuesday November 18 as they will face Duke in the opening game of the Champions Classic in Indianapolis. Pregame coverage begins at 6:00pm on Lansing's Big Talker 1240 WJIM and Classic Rock 94.9 WMMQ
