Just weeks before the high school basketball season begins in the state of Michigan, one of the Lansing-area's most historic programs has a new boys basketball coach.

Dale Beard is the new coach for the Sexton Big Reds.  He takes over for Steve Finamore, who resigned his position after just one season back in August.  The Big Reds have struggled in recent years, going 2-19 the last two seasons.

Beard is an Everett HS graduate (1978), and played with Earvin "Magic" Johnson on the legendary 1977 Class A state title team.  He was an assistant coach at Everett when the Vikings made back-to-back runs to the state Class A semifinals in 2015 and 2016.
