We know that the high school football tournament is goin on right now, but another MHSAA tournament that is going on this November is the annual girls volleyball state tournament.

The Mid-Michigan area is littered with really good teams this season.  And seven area teams advanced to next week's regional phase of the tourney with district final victories on Thursday night.

Grand Ledge and Okemos won district titles in Division 1.  The lady Comets defeated DeWitt in four sets to move on, While the lady Chiefs beat Holt in three straight sets to advance.

In Division 2, Williamston defeated Lake Fenton in four sets to move on to the regionals, while perennial power Lakewood beat CAAC White champion Ionia in straight sets to advance, and Lansing Catholic swept Owosso in three sets to move on.

In Division 3, Pewamo-Westphalia swept through their home district to move on to the regionals.  They beat Carson City-Crystal in straight sets.  While in Division 4, the lady Eagles of Fowler won a district title by sweeping Webberville in three sets.

There is one district title match on Friday.  It's in Division 3 as the Dansville lady Aggies visit Laingsburg to play the lady Wolf Pack at 6:00pm.

The regional phase of the tournament is next week.  In Division 1, Grand Ledge will face Brighton on Tuesday at DeWitt HS, with Okemos facing the winner of Ann Arbor Skyline/Dexter in the other semifinal.

Division 2 features Williamston against Lakewood at Ionia HS in semifinal #1, with Lansing Catholic taking on the Battle Creek Pennfield/Marshall winner in semi #2.  Those matches are on Tuesday.

Division 3 has P-W playing the Dansville/Laingsburg winner on Tuesday night at Dansville HS.  And in Division 4, Fowler will play Adrian Lenawee Christian on their home court Tuesday night.
