It was 1988 when the MSU Spartan football team played in the Rose bowl, defeating the USC Trojans. Well, that has now changed as this years team won the 100th Rose Bowl defeating Stanford 24-20.

The Spartans won the Big Ten outright this season, and Michigan State has won at least 11 games three times in the past four seasons. Game MVP Connor Cook threw for 332 yards and two touchdowns, as MSU overcame an early 10-point deficit. The Spartans really did control both sides of the ball. Cook had the best game of his career in the 100th Rose Bowl.

Kyler Elsworth with a crucial stop on fourth down and MSU wins the Granddaddy of them all: The Rose Bowl. Elsworth got the start because two time captain Max Bullough was suspended for undisclosed reasons. Kyler Elsworth, also made five tackles, and earned the defensive MVP honors in the game.

So the 100th Rose Bowl goes down like this: Mark Dantonio is MSU's head coach and they cut the cake. It was a storybook season unlike any other season. Uncertainty at the quarterback and running back position, a suspension to a captain, a 31-1 record overall and Rose Bowl champs. It took 26 years but it worth the wait.
