The Detroit Red Wings are reporting, via their Twitter account, that three players plus head coach Jeff Blashill (pictured above) and assistant coach Alex Tanguay have exited COVID-19 protocol and have returned to the team.

This comes one day after forwards Robby Fabbri and Michael Rasmussen came off of COVID-19 protocol and returned to the team.

The Wings has not played since December 18th when they beat the New Jersey Devils at Little Caesars Arena 5-2.  They are 15-13-3, or 33 points.  That's good for the second wild card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The team has had games against the Colorado Avalanche (scheduled for December 20th), the Minnesota Wild (December 23rd), and the New York Rangers (December 27th) postponed by the National Hockey League (NHL).  The league has been on pause since December 22nd.  The league is set to resume play tomorrow (December 28th).

It's not official yet, but with the NHL declining participation in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, it is widely expected that the NHL will use the three-week Olympic break to make up the 60+ games missed due to the latest outbreak of COVID-19.

The Red Wings next scheduled game is on December 29th at the New York Islanders.  Although there is a possibility that game could get postponed.  The traditional New Year's Eve game in Detroit against the Washington Capitals is also up in the air at this point.
