The New York Yankees have called an afternoon news conference where it is expected that first baseman Mark Teixeira (pictured) will announce his retirement from baseball, effective at the end of the season.

Teixeira has played thee last 8 years of his 14-year career with the Yankees.  He's also spent time with Atlanta, the LA Angels, and Texas, the team that drafted him in 2001.

He's hitting under .200 this year with only 10 home runs, he's battled injuries all season long.
