Multiple media outlets are reporting that the San Diego Padres have agreed to a contract with free agent infielder Manny Machado (pictured) on Tuesday afternoon.

The deal is reportedly for 10 years and $300 million.  It also contains an opt-out clause after the fifth year of the deal (2023).

Machado came up through the Baltimore Orioles system, and he stayed there for 6 1/2 years until this past summer where he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for multiple prospects.  He has a career .282 batting average with 175 career home runs and over 1,000 hits.

The shortstop joins Erik Hosmer and Wil Myers on a squad that has been rebuilding.  The team has not had a winning season since 2010.  The Padres were 66-96 last season.
