Gongwer News Service is reporting on Wednesday afternoon that Michigan State University interim president John Engler (pictured) has decided to resign his post, one day before the school's Board of Trustees meet to discuss his future.

Gongwer's tweet from Wednesday afternoon:

It was reported earlier on Wednesday that the MSU Board had called a one-item meeting set for Thursday morning on campus, where it has been presumed that Engler would be fired.

The former Michigan governor has been the school's interim president since Lou Anna Simon resigned almost a year ago.  The school has been currently engaged in a search to find a permanent president.
