NBC Sports is reporting that Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (pictured) will announce his retirement from NASCAR, effective at the end of the 2017 season.  A press conference is expected to make it official on Tuesday afternoon.

Earnhardt has been in NASCAR's top series, the Monster Energy Cup Series, since 1999.  And he's the son of legendary seven-time series champion, the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr.

Dale missed half of the 2016 season while recovering from concussions suffered during races last summer at Michigan and Daytona.  He's never won a season-long championship, but has won the prestigious season-opening Daytona 500 twice.
