He only appeared in 46 games but Filip Hronek has been named Detroit Red Wings rookie of the year by the Detroit Sports Media. 

According to the story from the Red Wings, Hronek lead all Red Wings rookies in scoring and had 23 points on the season.

The former second round pick in the 2016 draft was also fourth among NHL rookie defensemen in points and second best points per game average in the NHL.  He spent the other half of his season playing 31 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins where he had 24 points.

Currently he is a member of the Czech Republic team at the IIHF World Championship,  where he has 5 points in three games.

Hronek will be honored prior to a Red Wings home game next season.  He joins teammates Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha, Danny DeKeyser and Jimmy Howard among winners  of this award.
