So the unofficial national holiday that is the Super Bowl is upon us once again.  This is the 48th edition thereof, and this could be one of its best.  Featuring the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, who were AFC West rivals from 1977-2001.

It looks as though the weather is going to cooperate enough in New York, so it doesn't interfere with the game.  Hopefully, the field conditions at MetLife Stadium will be good as well.  Denver is a slight favorite to win, and I expect it to be a close game.  Denver has the league's number 1 offense, Seattle has the number 1 rated defense.  Both units need to play well if they want to win.

There has been some conjecture as to whether, or how much Denver QB Peyton Manning will throw at Seattle All-Pro CB Richard Sherman.  Manning has a bevy of wide receivers at his disposal, and I don't think he'll avoid Sherman a la Deion Sanders during his heyday in the 90's.

Seattle's offense hasn't been great in the postseason, they've just been good enough to win.  Seahawks QB Russell Wilson was not good against New Orleans in the Divisional Round and was just a little bit better against San Francisco in the NFC Championship.  Wilson will need to play great if the Seahawks are to win.  So will RB Marshawn Lynch, he's a big key as well.

I think special teams are a wash, both teams have good punters and great kickers.  Anything inside 50 yards for Denver's Matt Prater and Seattle's Stephen Hauschka are basically automatic.

So here's my prediction:  I think these are two pretty even teams.  But like Michigan State football, when it's your year, it's your year.  And I think it's Denver's year.  Peyton Manning proved me and a lot of people wrong with a great performance in the AFC Championship against New England.  He'll make a couple of big throws in key situations that'll be the difference.  I'll take Denver 31, Seattle 27.

I hope everyone enjos the Super Bowl, you can hear it on The Game 730 AM WVFN beginning with the pregame show at 5:00pm, kickoff is set for 6:25.
