Prep Basketball Weekly Postseason Awards
Here are the Prep Basketball Weekly Players and Coaches of the Year, as chosen by WVFN's Brock Palmbos.
Boys Basketball Player of the Year:
Trevor Manuel, Everett: Averaged 23.5 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks a game. Voted Class A All-State, finished 3rd in the Mr. Basketball voting. Also led the Vikings to the CAAC Blue championship, plus a Class A district and regional title, and a berth in the Class A semifinals at the Breslin Center. Headed to Oregon next season.
Boys Basketball Coach of the Year:
Desmond Ferguson, Everett: In his 3rd season at his alma mater, he turned the Vikings around from 5-15 to 24-3 and a berth in the Class A semifinals. Won the outright CAAC Blue championship, and helped develop Trevor Manuel into a Mr. Basketball candidate.
Girls Basketball Player of the Year:
Tara Lierman, Holt: Voted Class A All-State. Averaged 22 points, 6 assists, and 3.5 steals a game. She's the school's all-time leader in assists and steals. Scored over 1,000 points in her four-year varsity career. Had numerous triple-doubles, and even a few quadruple-doubles. Led the lady Rams to the CAAC Blue co-championship. Going to Grand Valley State to play soccer next season.
Girls Basketball Coach of the Year:
Doug Hurst, Laingsburg:
In his 3rd season, led the lady Wolfpack to an undefeated regular season. His team was ranked #1 in Class C for the majority of the year. Won district and regional championships and made it to the Class C semifinals at the Breslin Center.
