Pinch Me…The Detroit Pistons MIGHT Have A Credible Roster!!!
Now, I'm not saying that the Detroit Pistons are anywhere close to being a contender in an improved Eastern Conference. But...
Given the player moves that new President/Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon has made since NBA free agency began on July 1st, I can guarantee that the Pistons will win considerably more games this coming season.
Yeah, I know...That's a bold statement (haha!) considering the Pistons were 14-68 this past season. But I think they'll be better. I'm talking about 25-57, not anywhere close to the .500 mark. And certainly not close to the playoffs or the play.in tournament.
Look at how the roster sits at this point:
2024 Detroit Pistons Roster (as of July 11th)
No, it's not a team of world-beaters. But what you see above is a better roster that what you saw last year...BY FAR!!!! This is a credible NBA roster. And with a coach that MIGHT be a better fit in J.B. Bickerstaff (pictured above) than Monty Williams was (who looked like he didn't want to be there in the first place), you could see even more improvement than expected. Can they defend? Can they shoot the ball? Can they ever learn to finish games in the 4th quarter? Neither former head coaches Dwane Casey or Monty Williams could get them to do that.
And the team still has some cap room to fill out the last two spots on the roster. That's a good thing.
The least you can say is that this roster will be a watchable product this coming fall and winter. That's all we should ask for at this point. Because this is a credible NBA roster for the first time in several years.
