The first time I heard the word "pickleball," I started to laugh out loud. My first thought was, what in the world is pickleball?

Of course I had to look it up and then once I read all the information about this growing popular Michigan sport, I thought it sounded kind of fun.

Here's how I look at it. If you like badminton, tennis, and even table tennis, then you're going to love this game.

Are you curious about how pickleball is played? 10faq.com breaks it down:

The game is played on a court with a net, and the aim is to hit the ball over the net in a way that prevents the opposition from returning it, just like with other court games. Pickleball is played on a smaller court than other court games like tennis and badminton. This means that less movement is necessary, making it suitable for more people. It is a relatively new game and it is surging in popularity, with approximately 20,000 members in the USA Pickleball Association in 2007.

After reading all this information, I want to give it a try. It looks like fun and what's wrong with getting a little exercise?

It seems that pickleball has really picked up in recent weeks as one of the more popular sports in Michigan. In fact, not only in Michigan, but across the United States as well.

According to mlive.com:

An estimated 4.8 million people play pickleball in the United States—roughly a 41% increase from the 3.4 million tallied in 2019. The sport grew 21.3% from 2019 to 2020 and another 14.8% a year later, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association.

I use to play table tennis all the time during my younger days, perhaps I need to purchase a couple of pickleball paddles and start playing this very popular Michigan sport.
