Tournament officials have confirmed to Detroit media outlets that current PGA champion Phil Mickelson (pictured with the Wanamaker Trophy) has committed to play in the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club over the 4th of July weekend in Detroit.

Mickelson became the oldest major champion in history (one month shy of his 51st birthday) by winning the PGA Championship last weekend at Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

The 3rd edition of the Rocket Mortgage Classic begins on July 1st with the final round on July 4th.  Reigning U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau is the defending champion of the Rocket Mortgage.

Tickets go on sale to attend the Classic next week.  There will no attendance restrictions for the tournament, as all restrictions will be lifted next Tuesday (June 1st) by the state of Michigan.
