Pat Shurmur’s Days are Done with Giants

After another disappointing season, the New York Giants have decided to move on from head coach Pat Shurmur. ESPN's Adam Schefter first broke the news Monday morning on Twitter.

The news on what is considered "Black Monday" around the NFL hardly comes as a surprise as Shurmur compiled a 9-23 record in his two seasons with the Giants. What is surprising is the amount of turnover at the head coaching position for what has long been considered one of the league's most stable franchises.

With the anticipated dismissal of Shurmur, Giants ownership will undergo its third head coaching search in only five seasons. Given the recent shaky ground in East Rutherford, the top job for Big Blue has plenty of attractive qualities: a quarterback who just completed a rookie season with 23 touchdown passes compared to 11 interceptions in 12 games and a generational talent at running back in Saquon Barkley, who on Sunday became the first Giants running back to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing in his first two seasons. All of that is not to mention the available cap space with contracts and dead money tied to Eli Manning, Odell Beckham, Jr. and Janoris Jenkins coming off the books.
