One of Michigan's tribal casinos is opening up - this week.

According to MLive.com, the Island Resort and Casino, in Harris, MI (west of Escanaba on U.S. 2) is starting a phased re-opening starting Wednesday May 6th. The slot machines, to-go food service, some bars, bingo and retail open on Wednesday. On Friday, May 8, the golf courses open. And the hotel will reopen on Wednesday, May 13.

The casino is owned and operated by the Hannahville Indian Community. It is NOT under the authority of the Michigan Gaming Control Board. Gov. Whitmer’s recent executive order that keeps casinos under the MGCB closed, does not apply to the tribal casinos, even though they have, to this point, been voluntarily closed. It will be interesting to see how the other tribal casinos react to this one opening up.

If you go to The Island, be aware that they are still encouraging guests to wear face-masks and they will check your temperature. If your temperature is 100 or higher, you will not be getting in.
