The famous Oakland Hills South Course in suburban Detroit is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation that should be finished next summer.

This reconstruction of "The Monster", as Ben Hogan called it when he won the U.S. Open in 1951, is being done in hopes of attracting another major golf championship (U.S. Open or PGA Championship).  Or another future Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup matches.

The last major held at the famed course was the 2008 PGA Championship, won by Irishman Padraig Harrington (pictured above with the Wanamaker Trophy).  It also hosted the U.S. Men's Amateur Championship in 2016.

The next open date for the U.S. Open is 2028, the next open date for the PGA Championship is 2032.
