Gustav Nyquist has been the Red Wings prized prospect for some time now.

As the Wings #1 rated prospect according to hockeysfuture.com, Nyquist made in impact in last year's playoff run by amassing five points in 14 games (Including this beauty against Chicago).  This year, due to roster and salary cap reasons, Nyquist has spent the early part of the season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, who are the Red Wings AHL affiliate.

Danny DeKeyser's injury opened up a roster spot, and Nyquist got the call to play his first NHL game of the season Thursday night against Carolina.  He didn't take long to make an impact.

Nyquist scored just 17 seconds into the contest, then put the game away with a breakaway goal.  Even though it will limit the team's flexibility going forward, the Red Wings announced that Nyquist will remain on the NHL roster for the remaininder of the season.

With Detroit scuffling and losing seven straight games prior to Thursday's win over Carolina, Nyquist provided this aging group of forwards with much-needed creativity and energy.  The lack of secondary scoring has plagued the Wings all season, but they may have added a very helpful piece that will help them get back on track.
