The North American International Auto Show is back for 2022, and this time they're taking the excitement to the streets of Detroit.

The iconic show is returning for the first time after a multi-year absence with plans to be bigger and better than ever with a host of news events and activities. In a press release, The North American International Auto Show (aka Detroit Auto Show) announced this year will be the first-ever indoor-outdoor show.

Set to take place September 14–25, at Huntington Place in Detroit, the show will offer a completely transformed indoor and outdoor experience for attendees. Dubbed a "next-generation show", the goal is to capitalize on the region’s assets, which include the convention center, Hart Plaza, the Detroit Riverfront, and the city's downtown parks as well.

“This year’s auto show plays a vitally important role in promoting emerging technologies, particularly in the EV space,” said  Rod Alberts, executive director of the North American International Auto Show in a statement.  “As the first auto show of the season and with the release of new models in the fall, we expect the show to be a pivotal player in consumers’ vehicle shopping and purchase decisions.”

What to Expect at the North American International Auto Show 2022

Attendees at this year's show will find a wide variety of experiences according to organizers:

  • According to show officials, the main show floor at Huntington Place is sold out and will feature a mix of hands-on activations, traditional vehicle exhibits, and a showcase of automotive innovation and technology.
  • Plans call for at least five active tracks inside Huntington Place with several dynamic activations envisioned outside in Hart Plaza.
  • Multiple brands are planning street course ride-and-drives along the new 2023 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix downtown circuit.
  • AutoMobili-D (AMD), presented by the Michigan Economic Development Corp., returns inside Huntington Place featuring 80-plus technology companies, Tier 1 suppliers and start-ups, as well as leading universities.
  • AMD will also be the backdrop for powerful content with panel discussions being scheduled with an emphasis on mobility and electrification trends and observations

The Charity Gala

The iconic Charity Preview Gala will return as well. Held this year at Huntington Place on September 16th, the black-tie affair will feature a soon-to-be-announced headliner. The Charity Preview has raised more than $100 million for children’s charities in Southeastern Michigan over the past 25 years alone. Those attending can expect a "citywide celebration" on preview night.

Tickets for the event will be $400 each or $700 a pair and will go on sale July 11th.
