MSU Trustee & Former FBall Coach Perles Resigns
Former Michigan State University head football coach and current Board of Trustee member George Perles (pictured, during his coaching career at MSU) has announced his resignation from the Board, effective immediately, according to various news reports.
Perles relinquished his post in a letter to Board Chairman Brian Breslin, dated Wednesday, November 28th. The listed Democrat was four years into his second term as a Trustee. He had served on the Board since January of 2007, he was first elected to his position in November of 2006.
Perles was a former football player at MSU in the 1950s, and was named head coach of the football program in December of 1982. He led the Spartans to an outright Big Ten championship and a Rose Bowl victory in the 1987 season. He was relieved of his duties as coach near the end of the 1994 season.
Perles has also served as the school's athletic director in the 1990's and was a defensive assistant coach for the four-time Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970's.
