Michigan State, who's coming off a 10-3 season, is ranked 11th in the first Associated Press college football, released on Monday.  Michigan, who was 8-5 last season, is rated 14th.

Defending national champion Alabama is ranked number 1, with 2016 national champ Clemson 2nd.  Last year's runner-up Georgia is ranked 3rd with Wisconsin 4th.  Defending Big Ten champ Ohio State rounds out the top five.

The only other Big Ten team ranked in the inaugural poll is Penn State at number 10.  Notre Dame, who Michigan plays on September 1st, is ranked 12th.
