MSU Men’s and Women’s Hoops Sweep Weekly Award

After a strong showing to open up conference play, MSU women's and men's freshmen picked up weekly awards.

Freshmen forward Nick Ward takes his second consecutive Big Ten freshmen of the week. In two games, he averaged 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and shot nearly 62% from the field. Ward picked up a double-double in a victory against Minnesota. Men's hoops is 2-0 in early conference play and 10-5 overall.

On the women's side, freshmen forward Victoria Gaines earned her first weekly award with the Spartans. She posted career highs and recorded her first double-double against Illinois with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Tori Jankoska is the last freshmen to win the award since Tori Jankoska in 2014. Suzy Merchant has lead them to an 11-3 record and 1-0 in conference play.
