Former Spartan football great John "Thunder" Lewis died earlier this week at the age of 81.

Lewis was a member of the Michigan State Rose Bowl team of the 1955 season.  The Spartans defeated UCLA 17-14 on January 2nd, 1956 to finish off a 9-1 season under then second-year coach Duffy Daugherty.

Lewis was a prominent businessman and community leader after his playing days were over.  And he was a beloved alumnus in the years since as well.
