Michigan State hockey forward Mason Appleton (pictured) has signed a professional contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League, according to msuspartans.com.

Appleton foregoes his final two years of eligibility to join the Jets organization.  He was the Spartans leading goal scorer with 12 this past season.

Appleton was a sixth-round draft choice by the Jets two years ago.  He was counted on to be a key guy for the Spartans this upcoming season, the first for new head coach Danton Cole.
