Michigan State sophomore guard Pierre Brooks, Jr. (pictured above) announced via Instagram that he will enter the transfer portal on Wednesday morning.

Brooks played in 30 games for Michigan State this season.  But saw his court time diminish throughout the season.  He averaged 3.6 points and 1.7 rebounds this past season.

Pierre was Michigan's Mr. Basketball in 2021, where he led Detroit Douglass (coached by his father, Pierre Brooks, Sr.) to the Division 4 state title in a 47-41 victory over Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian.

Brooks' departure, along with Joey Hauser's announcement last week, leaves MSU with 12 scholarship players entering next season (counting the four incoming freshmen, including Xavier Booker).  This is pending decisions by seniors Tyson Walker and Malik Hall as to whether they will return to MSU for their extra COVID-19 year next season.

Brooks is the second Michigan Mr. Basketball to transfer away from East Lansing in recent years.  Foster Loyer, who won Mr. Basketball at Clarkston HS in 2018 after leading the school to back-to-back Class A state titles, left MSU after the 2020-21 season and finished his career at Davidson.
