Mike Babcock's 10 year tenure as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings is over.  On Wednesday, Babcock agreed to a 8-year deal worth $50 million to become the new head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

His average salary of $6.25 million/season makes him the highest-paid coach in the National Hockey League.  Mike leaves the club that he guided to a Stanley Cup championship in 2008, and led to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 2009.

Many observers feel that Jeff Blashill, the head coach of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Wings top farm club, is a likely candidate to replace Babcock in Detroit.
