Michigan’s Top Baseball Teams Include Dewitt and Grand Ledge
When it comes to local baseball in the Capital city, nothing beats the local Dean Shippey Diamond Classic.
In fact, the last time I went to the Diamond Classic was a few years ago when my nephew Garrett, who played on Dewitt's baseball team, played against top notch teams including Grand Ledge. That particular year, 2017, Garrett's Dewitt baseball team won the championship.
According to the Lansing State Journal:
No. 2-ranked Grand Ledge and No. 8-ranked Dewitt split a CAAC Blue doubleheader last month and head a field of 10 teams, nine of which were announced on Tuesday. The Comets and Panthers have combined to win the last six Diamond Classic titles, with Grand Ledge winning five of them, including taking the last two in 2018 and 2019. Dewitt was the champion in 2017.
It's truly amazing to watch the Dean Shippey Diamond Classic. There are a lot of very talented baseball players on these local high school teams and I'm sure that many of them will move on to college teams sometime in the near future.
Lansing State Journal adds:
The tournament will begin Monday, with Williamston and East Lansing hosting games at 5 p.m. Williamston will host the team added to the field Wednesday, while St. Johns will travel to East Lansing.
It's so much fun cheering on your team during the tournament and the look on parents faces are simply priceless. Lots of cheering, screaming, picture taking, and great tournament baseball excitement.
We wish all local high school baseball teams best of luck as the Dean Shippey Diamond Classic gets underway soon. By the way, the semifinals and finals will be played at Municipal Park on June 2 and June 7. (LSJ)
