Michigan State University’s First Women’s Golf Coach Passes Away
Mary Fossum, a Green Bay, Wisconsin native, and Michigan State University's first Women's Golf Coach, passes away at the age of 93.
Fossum coached at MSU with her husband Bruce, from 1973 till 1997, when Slobodnik-Stoll took over as the coach for the women's team.
Fossum had won three straight years in the women's amateur tournament from 1945-47.
According to the Detroit News, Fossum had been inducted into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame back in 2002, and into the Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame back in 2003, the National Golf Coaches of America Hall of Fame in 1990, as well as the Wisconsin Golf Hall of Fame in 1988.
