Michigan State Ranked #5 In CBS Way-Too-Early Poll
Michigan State was ranked 5th in the country by CBS Sports in a recent top 25 poll the website produced.
If we're getting our terminology correct the "way too early" polls happen right after the season and CBS Sports calls this a "post-spring" poll. What differences can be figured out between the end of last season and after everybody has a glorified public practice called a spring game, I'm not sure. However it is worth noting Michigan State was given a rank of 17 by CBS Sports immediately after the national championship game this year, so there's that.
Dennis Dodd, author of the post-spring poll, said this about Michigan State:
If it's not Ohio State in the East, it's got to be the Spartans. Mark Dantonio gets back sneaky-good quarterback Brian Lewerke and tailback LJ Scott. Ohio State and Michigan have to come to East Lansing.
Favorable schedule and a lot of returning contributors should have MSU poised for a strong 2018-19 season next fall.
The top four according to the poll were Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Ohio State. Other Big Ten teams making the ranking after MSU were Wisconsin (6) Penn State (7), and Michigan (15).
