Less than 24 hours before the Spartans kick off their 2016 season they were hit with another departure from their football program.

Enoch Smith Jr., a sophomore defensive tackle, announced via twitter that he would not be a part of the 2016 Spartans football team.

Smith Jr. was listed as the fourth string defensive tackle on the Spartans opening depth chart for Furman. He was dropped from the third string spot at some point during camp according to reports.

As to why he left the program, as Smith Jr. wrote in his open letter "God has a plan for me and I am excited for the future".

Smith Jr. redshirted in 2014 and made one tackle in the 2015 season

Smith Jr. is the fourth defensive linemen to leave the Spartans this offseason. All this movement has left Malik McDowell as the only returning player on the defensive line for Michigan State this season.

Graduate transfer from Nebraska Kevin Williams was brought in to help alleviate some of the depth concerns at this position.

Michigan State opens up their 2016 season at home against the Furman Paladins on Friday and you can catch all the action on Classic Rock 94.9 WMMQ and Lansing's Big Talker 1240 WJIM.
