Michigan Hunters Beware of EEE Dangers

According to the Detroit Free Press, the dangerous mosquito borne virus Eastern equine encephalitis is a risk for deer hunters this season, as bow hunting starts this week in Michigan.

Health officials say it's important for hunters to remember there's an outbreak of EEE in 15 counties in the lower half of the state, and they should take precautions to protect themselves from bites.

So far this year in Michigan, at least 11 whitetail deer have been confirmed to have the virus, which is carried by birds native to hardwood swamp areas and transmitted to humans and animals through mosquito bites.

Hunters concerned about EEE in those areas where the disease has been identified this year should protect themselves from mosquito bites.
