When a Whitmore Lake gardening store saw a dip in business because of the gas crunch, they offered a solution.

Grow Green Is A Garden Store For A Certain Type Of Grower

Grow Green specializes in helping folks grow all sorts of plants from vegetables to recreational marijuana. But since they are located in a remote area of Livingston County, a lot of their customers have to make a hike from Detroit, Flint and Ann Arbor to get there.

The gas crunch cause a bit of a drop off in business so on Friday, which is known as 'Free Stuff Fridays' at Grow Green, they decided to offer free gasoline. Five bucks worth if you bought anything at the store.

In other words, they were saying, if you make the effort to come out and buy something, we'll pay for your gas.

They Had A Lot Of Gas To Give Away

P.J. McMillan, the marketing director of Grow Green, said they had 180 Five Dollar Gas Cards to hand out Friday and were on pace to give them all away.

"They just have to come in the store and buy something, anything, whether it be a light for 50 cents or a T-shirt for $10, or actually nutrients or lights," McMillan told MLive.

"We're a little bit of a hike for a lot of people that shop with us. ... We've seen a little bit of a hit with people coming to the store, so we just thought this would be kind of a cool way to try to entice some people," McMillan added.

All customers seeking the free gas had to do was register with Eventbrite before checking out.
