Megatron: Not Coming Back To DET Until I Get My Money Back
In a long, wide-ranging interview with Sports Illustrated's Michael Rosenberg, former Detroit Lions great and future Hall of Fame wide receiver Calvin Johnson (aka Megatron, pictured above) said that he won't return to the Lions for any team-related activities (player alumni or otherwise) until the team pays back the $1.6 million the team made Johnson pay them when Calvin retired after the 2015 season.
In the interview, Johnson told SI that he had at least nine concussions during his career. And that he smoked marijuana after every game of his nine-year NFL career.
He was the Lions first round pick out of Georgia Tech in 2007. He won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's best wide receiver in 2006. He was a four-time Pro Bowler during his career. Johnson is eligible for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
The $1.6 million mentioned before was the prorated signing bonus for the long-term contract he received from the team in 2012.
