Banks was named to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999. Ernie Banks is regarded by some as one of the greatest players of all time. He began playing professional baseball in 1950 with the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro leagues. He served in the the U. S. military for two years. He began his major league in 1953.

Ernie Banks was the Cubs first black player. He died January 23, 2015 (aged 83) in Chicago. He is missed, because like Willie Mays and Hank Aaron they are all ambassadors for Major League Baseball. The Chicago Cubs won over 100 games this season. They are managed by Joe Madden. This franchise has been snake bit by the billy goat and Steve Bartman. This team needs to win this years World Series for their fans and Mr. "Cub" Ernie Banks.
