Things aren't looking too keen for former second round draft pick and Michigan State Spartan Malik McDowell.

Last year, weeks before training camp, McDowell reported crashed his ATV, suffering several injuries to his face in addition to a concussion.

At the time, McDowell expressed his optimism that his injuries would not prevent him from taking the field in the future as a Seattle Seahawk.

In recent days, starting with an NFL Insider, Ian Rapoport report, the outlook took a down turn for McDowell.

Rapoport tweeted out Monday night that the Seahawks were planning to release the former 35th overall pick before he could ever take the field. According to Rapoport, the team still has not been able to medically clear McDowell to play.

On Tuesday morning, Yahoo Sports' reporter Charles Robinson gave more insight to the severity of McDowell's initial injuries.

"It was clear from the moment of injury that it was an extremely long shot he’d ever play again," Robinson wrote in a tweet.

The Seahawks organization, for its part, has been tight lipped on the situation.
