When I was in eighth grade in 1973, my dad got us a wonderful Brittany Spaniel. We named him Brit. Brit was a great bird dog and a wonderful canine friend. Brit was with us for more than 10 years before he passed.

Now, if you have ever had a pet, you know that they become a tight family member. That’s what Brit became, and I was distraught for a long time after he was gone.

Years later after my mom had passed, I felt maybe it was time to get a new friend and adopt a pup. But my life changed drastically when I fell in love with my wife to be and planned to get married to Carole.

This was the situation. She had sold their family home after her husband and my friend (Mijo Kovac) passed away. So Carole moved in with me with one of their dogs. This dog was named Chloe. She turned into my very precious friend. I really didn’t know how this would work out, but it ended up working out perfectly. We became very close. Their other dogs named Oliver and Emmie Lynn lived in separate places.

Now, like I said, Carole and I got married in 2004 and we bought our home we live in now. But Chloe was getting up in years and her health was failing. It was very sad to see her decline. Chloe has now been gone over a year, and I think of her every day.

Oliver and Emmie Lynn live with us now and they fill the void of her absence. They're two wonderful doggies. I will never forget Chloe ever! She was a canine character to say the least. I love dogs, and this situation just reinforced it. So, if you are looking for a companion, think about adopting a dog.
