Bob Ley (right, pictured with ESPN colleague Chris Berman), one of ESPN's original anchor/reporters dating back to the network's inception in 1979, announced his retirement via Twitter on Wednesday morning.

Ley's tweet:

Ley filled many roles with the network during his tenure in Bristol, Connecticut.  He anchored SportsCenter, the network's college basketball coverage as well as soccer.  In recent years, he anchored and reported on "Outside The Lines" (OTL) on a daily basis.

Bob announced last fall (he referenced it in the tweet) that he was taking an open-ended leave of absence from OTL.
