Local Hospitals Screening Staff and Visitors for Coronavirus

For a lot of people, this almost feels like having a bad dream and you just can't seem to wake up from it. As of today, the coronavirus has infected more than 4,400 people in the United States.

According to the Lansing State Journal, hospitals across Michigan began screening staff and visitors for the coronavirus.

The screenings are required by an executive order Governor Gretchen Whitmer made Friday. Whitmer required health care facilities begin screening people on Monday, March 16.

Sparrow Health System began screening people going into its hospitals at 6 a.m. Monday.

Sparrow staff will first screen patients at checkpoints inside the hospitals. If people have symptoms of coronavirus, they will go to a tent outside the buildings.

Whitmer's executive order told health care, residential care, congregate care and juvenile justice facilities to enact temporary screening measures by 9 a.m. March 16. The order requires facilities maintain the screening processes through April 5.

At this point, we're not sure how long the coronavirus pandemic will last. Some say it could last through July or possibly August. Only time will tell.
