Michigan is one of the big hockey states in the country. Even with the Red Wings recent playoff drought, Detroit is still high on a new list for 2019.

WalletHub has released their list of the Best Cities for Hockey Fans for 2019.  The list was released just as The Stanley Cup Finals begin.

WalletHub ranks the cities based on 21 indicators.  Ticket prices, team performance and stadium capacity are a few of the indicators used to rank the cities.

The new list includes cities with a NHL ranking and a NCAA ranking.  Topping the list is the city that is home to one of the teams currently playing for The Stanley Cup, Boston.

They have the 3rd best NHL rank but Number 1 in the NCAA.   Following Boston is Detroit which has the number 1 NHL ranking but 56th in NCAA.  The fan base is still strong for the Red Wings despite their recent drought.

All of those cities feature college hockey and of course Kalamazoo has the K-Wings.   The highest ranking Michigan city other than Detroit, is Ann Arbor at 24 overall.  Ann Arbor features University of Michigan Hockey and is ranked 2nd in NCAA Rankings.

Kalamazoo with WMU Broncos Hockey and The K-Wings, barely made the list at 72. Just ahead of Huntsville, Alabama which features Alabama-Huntsville college hockey.
