Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs will be a favorite for NFL MVP next season.  One ESPN analyst thinks a healthy Matthew Stafford could be in the mix.

According to the story from M-Live, ESPN analyst Jeremy Fowler thinks a healthy Stafford will be in the mix if the Lions are in contention.

Fowler lists the numbers Stafford puts up, the competition in the NFC North , along with the players around him like, Kenny Golladay as a reason he can win.

Stafford had a great season this past year until he went down with fractured bones in his back.

He was replaced in the Lions lineup by backups Jeff Driskel and David Blough.  When he went down, Stafford had a QB rating of 106.0 which was a career high.  It was also 6th best in the league.

Health is an issue for the team next year plus  the Lions need clean up the defense.  Free agency and the draft will be interesting this off season for the Lions.

The Lions have the third overall pick.  Will they use it or trade it we'll see in April?   I am curious to see if Stafford can return and help the team contend.
