Lansing Sexton Coach On State Championship: ‘This Dream Is Now A Reality’

Last year, Lansing Sexton's season came to an end one week before the Big Reds thought it should.

They fell in the Division 4 state semifinals to eventual champion Marine City, 12-7. It was a game in which the Big Reds felt they left a lot of points on the field, missed too many opportunities and should have come away from with the first state title game appearance in school history.

Now, 53 weeks later, Sexton hasn't lost a game since.

The Big Reds punched that first-ever ticket to the state championships last weekend with a 28-14 victory of Detroit Country Day in the Division 4 state semifinals. Sexton (13-0) will play Grand Rapids South Christian (11-2) in the Division 4 state championship game Friday at 7:30 p.m. You can listen to that game live on our sister station 97.5 NOW FM.

Big Reds head coach Dan Boggan joined Staudt on Sports Wednesday morning to talk about the game, what it means to his team and what it means to the entire Lansing community--it's the first-ever football state championship game appearance for any of Lansing's three high schools.

"This dream is now a reality," Boggan said.
