The Lansing Lugnuts had to wait an extra day to open up the 2017 season, but did so in sweeping fashion, taking two games Friday on the road against the Great Lakes Loons in Midland Friday; 6-3 in Game One, 2-0 in Game Two.

The bats got going early for The Lugnuts as highly touted prospects Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. both had big days at the plate, teaming up to account for 5 of the team's 10 hits in Game One as well as 4 of the 6 runs and runs batted in. Starting pitcher Justin Maese went 5 innings, giving 3 runs on 3 hits, 4 walks, and 4 strikeouts.

In Game Two, pitchers Tayler Saucedo and Geno Encina teamed up for a 4 hit shutout. Saucedo allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 2/3 innings of work. Encina went the rest of the way, 4 1/3 innings with 3 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Bradley Jones and Yeltsin Gudino picked up the RBI's in Game Two.
