The Detroit Lions announced on Tuesday that they have named Lansing Catholic HS head football coach Jim Ahearn as their High School Football Coach of the Year.

Ahearn led the Cougars to the Division 5 11-Player football championship last Saturday with a thrilling 31-17 victory over Almont at Ford Field.  It is Catholic's first state title since they won the Class C championship back in 1985.

He has won 301 games in his long career coaching high school football in Michigan and Florida.  He just finished his 11th season coaching the Cougars.  He led the Cougars to the Division 5 finals in 2011 and 2014, losing both title games.
