Lansing-Area H.S. Football Top 10 Poll (After Week 8)
We are down to the final week of the regular season in high school football in the state of Michigan. Just one week until the playoffs begin.
And we are now down to just two area teams that are unbeaten: Mason and Portland.
As a result, they are 1-2 in this week's poll after very impressive wins over top-level teams this past Friday night (in less than ideal weather).
Congratulations are in order for Portland and Pewamo-Westphalia, as they clinched outright league titles with their victories last week. Portland wins the CAAC White, P-W the CMAC. And East Lansing has clinched a share of the CAAC Blue title, and can win it outright if they beat Grand Ledge on the road this coming Friday.
And there are lots of teams that won't win league titles, but are contenders for spots in the upcoming football playoffs. Teams like Grand Ledge, DeWitt, Williamston, Sexton, and Fowler are solidly in the playoffs. While teams like Everett, Ionia, Charlotte, Lansing Catholic, Olivet, Laingsburg, Perry, Leslie, and Saranac all need victories to get in the postseason.
As far as 8-Player football goes, Portland St. Patrick and Morrice look solidly in the Division 2 bracket. But despite having a great season, Vermontville Maple Valley won't make the 8-Player playoffs due to having too many students (enrollment too high) to qualify.
There are lots of good games this week, with many of them with playoff implications. East Lansing at Grand Ledge, Charlotte at Fowlerville, Lansing Catholic at P-W, Olivet at Richland-Gull Lake, Perry at Bath, and Homer at Leslie.
We will have the East Lansing at Grand Ledge game on The Game 730 AM WVFN this Friday night. Brock Palmbos will have the pregame at 6:00pm with Erik "Doc" Love joining him from Grand Ledge High School just before 7:00pm with game coverage.
Ok, on with this week's rankings:
