Lansing-Area H.S. Football Top 10 Poll

To the surprise of the author (and many other people), there are ten area teams still alive for regional titles this coming weekend after some wild games last week in the district finals.

Pewamo-Westphalia went up to favored Ithaca and upset the Yellowjackets 17-14 in Division 7. The Pirates blocked a field goal that would've tied the game to preserve the win.

Lansing Catholic forced three turnovers and held on to defeat Ovid-Elsie 31-28 in Division 6.

And in Division 2, East Lansing got a touchdown pass from QB Ben Fletcher to WR Owen Fortman as time ran out to pull the Trojans within one point. And then they went for two and got it on a B.J. Windham TD catch to beat favored Dexter, 50-49.

Haslett pulled off a shocker by knocking off state power Chelsea on the road, 24-9 in Division 4. And Leslie stopped a 2-point conversion in the final minutes to beat Grosse Pointe Woods-University Liggett, 23-21 in Division 7.

Mason, Portland, and Fowler won easily to advance to the regionals as well. And Morrice took the regional title in 8-Player, Division 2 with a surprisingly easy win over Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart last Saturday.
