The conference races are getting hot and heavy as we enter the final month of the regular season in high school boys basketball in the Lansing area.

Sexton's 60-58 loss to Lansing Catholic combined with Portland's 44-36 victory over Olivet made a tie at the top of the standings in the CAAC White with a 7-1 league record with six league games left.

It's a three-team race in the CAAC Blue with East Lansing (7-0 league record), Waverly (6-1), and Okemos (4-2) leading the way.  They have distanced themselves from the rest.  And the CAAC Red race could be decided this Thursday as Mason (6-0 league record) hosts Haslett (5-1) for the league lead.  If Mason wins that game, you can just about give them the title.  If Haslett wins, it'll be a tie with three league games left.

And it's a two-team race in the CMAC as Pewamo-Westphalia (11-0 league record) leads Fowler (10-1) with seven CMAC left for both.

Let's not forget 12-2 Ovid-Elsie, who might win the Mid-Michigan Athletic Conference.  And 10-2 Stockbridge has a chance to win the Big 8 Conference.

Some of the big games this week include on Tuesday:  Lansing Catholic at Haslett, Laingsburg at Fowler, and P-W at Portland St. Patrick.

Thursday's marquee games are the aforementioned Haslett at Mason contest as well as Fowler at Portland St. Patrick.

On Friday, it's Ionia at Portland and Chesaning at Ovid-Elsie.  And East Lansing plays Detroit Renaissance on Saturday.

And Brock Palmbos will recap everything this Saturday morning with High School Rewind.  Which airs from 10am-11am on The Game 730 AM WVFN.  We are, and continue to be, your trusted source for high school sports coverage.
